Acting Country Director of the CCFC, Christian Children’s Fund of Canada Mr William Anim-Dankwa, has urged Political Parties and government of Ghana to entrust to peace and protect the children’s rights during election this year.

William Anim-Dankwa urged politicians not to use children for electoral advantage since it had the potential of corrupting their young minds forever.

He was addressing in Tamale to the commemoration of the International Day of the African Child on Thursday under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and a host of NGOs including United Nations Children’s Fund, World Vision, Action aid and Plan Ghana and Campaign for Female Education.

The African Child’s International Day is celebrated on June 16 every year by the African Union in line with resolution CM/Res. 1290(XL) to remember the 1976 massacre of Soweto children who only took to the streets to demand their right to racism-free education, in South Africa.

The local theme for this event was: “Election 2016: Protecting the Rights of Children in the country.

William Anim-Dankwa expressed concern about the many reports of involvement of children during the recent limited voter registration exercise. He said children should be separated from participating in elections.

He urged the Government to authorize state institutions with resources to be able to deal with issues that are expected to send us in the direction of electoral disputes, disagreement and conflicts.

The Program Manager of Plan Ghana, Mr Sulemana Gbana called for more support for children. He said Plan Ghana would keep working with government to promote children’s interest in Ghana.
