A Near Miss in Tuscaloosa

I went to Tuscaloosa for this game and found a nice shady spot behind the center field fence at the Alabama Softball field to watch Auburn go down 3-2. The game was a sold out and there were plenty of Auburn fans around the stadium to support the team. After the game, the kids with the Alabama gear were lined up after the game to get autographs of the Auburn players before they left the field and several Auburn and Alabama players who had played in high school together wanted photos together. Despite the rivalry, some of these girls have formed a life long friendship playing in high school before they ever came to Auburn or Alabama. Also, the Alabama fans gave the Auburn seniors a good ovation before the game started when they were introduced.

Ashlee Swindle got the start which had to be a big day for her. She did surrender 3 runs in the third inning after starting strong in the first two innings. Makayla Martin came in for relief and pitched well the rest of the game. I can only guess that Clint Myers wanted to rest Kaylee Carlson for the SEC tournament so she did not pitch today.

Auburn had the bases loaded the first two innings and just could not get any runners across the plate. Kasey Cooper was able to play and she walked 4 times which was no surprise. Haley Fagan had two solo home runs.

Auburn just missed getting their first sweep in Tuscaloosa today, but did win the series. Auburn did set two program records this weekend. They won 5 straight games against Alabama prior to Sunday and it was their first series win in Tuscaloosa.

Auburn will now prepare for the SEC tournament in Knoxville this week. Auburn will play Kentucky or South Carolina at 4 p.m. CDT  on Thursday afternoon. Auburn is in a good bracket and has a great shot at getting to the Championship game on Saturday night.
