How to Shop for Sex Toys

So you’re facing the task of visiting a sex shop and you’re feeling a bit uneasy about it. Perhaps your partner suggested you go together, you have a bachelorette party coming up, or you’ve just decided that you deserve some awesome pleasurable sexy time assistance, but the whole “in person sex toy purchase” thing is uncharted territory for you.  This article will give you some tips on what to do and what NOT to do. After you’ve found an adult Store you’d like to visit here’s what’s next…

1.Don’t go in completely clueless

Now I don’t mean you have to show up an expert on Sex Toys, but you do need to have an idea of what you’re trying to accomplish, and what your preferences or those of whom you’re Shopping for are.   Do you enjoy penetration? Are you looking for something super kinky? High power vibe? Pussy and ass replica? Really amazing adult stores can be vastly stocked and slightly overwhelming if you don’t have at least a beginning idea of what you’re looking for… and surprise sex toys are not a good idea if you don’t have an idea of what your giftee likes (think, fancy, expensive underwear drawer space taker upper).

But if you don’t have all of the details, don’t fret, because there are people there to help you…

2. Listen to the experts

The staff at adult shops are trained to answer the questions that come up when shopping for these types of things, so don’t be afraid to ask, and most importantly, LISTEN. You not only want to get answers while there but you want to have the best experience possible AFTER you’ve shopped. They can help you find what’s going to work best for your needs or the needs of the person you’re shopping for.  They’ll tell you the proper way to use, clean, and store your toys so they that last long and you can avoid any health problems that could arise.

3. Don’t Go for The Cheapest

Quality sex toys come with a quality price.  The safest, healthiest, and most durable materials cost more.  The best and most amazing designs also deserve a higher price because of the thought, engineering and manufacturing that go into them. Be prepared to pay a little more for a better product.

4. Don’t take ‘toys’ so literally while shopping

Be respectful of the store and it’s staff.  Don’t bust out a dildo sword fight in the middle of shopping, as temping as it may be.  Don’t ask the staff silly questions (they’ve already heard them 100 times and they’re not amused).

That being said, don’t be afraid to giggle.  Some of the stuff you see will be downright hilarious on purpose (ahem, penis lollipops).

5. Don’t be ashamed

Despite what religious dogma and uptight humans at every corner might say, there’s absolutely nothing to be ashamed of when shopping in an adult store.  Most places are not seedy and they’re very professional and just plain upstanding establishments.  You should feel no worse about shopping there than you should about shopping at the mall for other things that make your life better and more enjoyable. Celebrate the fact that you have a healthy sex drive and are willing to explore and expand your sexual adventures because you have a whole lifetime of awesome sex ahead of you. Ya gotta keep things interesting.

And if you decide in person shopping just isn’t for you (I get it, I don’t even go to the grocery store anymore thanks to delivery apps), you can always do your sex toy shopping online.

Happy Toying!
