With 100 levels and some seriously challenging puzzles, it strikes the right balance between difficult and fun to deliver a solid experience. Although there isn’t much depth to the story, the hand-drawn art and crystal upgrades are enough to differentiate it from the pack.

Season 3: Curse of the Witch

As the third game in the Season Match series, Curse of the Witch Crow offers the same great match 3 elements but with a bit more story. The story is all about freeing month-themed characters from underneath the power of the Witch Crow by solving puzzles and unlocking treasures. The story mode also offers various mini games that breakup the gameplay enough without interrupting the plot progression. It’s a worthwhile entry in the series and a great addition to any Switch console.

Match 3: Pirates! Heir to Davy Jones

From the same developer as Gems of Magic, Pirates! Heir to Davy Jones offers a similar gameplay experience. There isn’t that much of a story or anything that unique, but if you have a deep love for pirates, this is one of those games that could end up being a guilty pleasures. With 100 levels and some pretty decent challenges, this game holds up as a classic match 3. You can even upgrade your own pirate ship with gold you earn from completing levels.

Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns

If you’re looking for an indie game for Nintendo Switch that straddles the line between RPG and match 3 adventure, Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns is the right game for you. Although it isn’t exactly a new game, Puzzle Quest is a delightful puzzle adventure that combines quests, spells, classes, and items with matching puzzles. You get to battle enemies and move through various storylines as you go. It follows a similar model as you’d see in a Candy Crush games, but with more of a fantasy twist.

The Forgotten Land

If you’re looking for a unique experience, The Forgotten Land offers a different perspective on the match 3 genre entirely. The plot is one part gothic mystery, one part magical adventure, and surprisingly entertaining. As you work your way through the story, you upgrade your characters as well as their spells. You also have the chance to upgrade your camp for various play bonuses. Although the gameplay is largely focused on the match 3 element, there are also a couple of mini games that break up the monotony
