A heavy to very Heavy Rainfall Alert has been issued for the North Bengal Districts till Tuesday

MP | 27 Aug 2022 | Kolkata: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore predicted heavy rainfall in various North Bengal districts in the next 48 hours which include Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Coochbehar, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur. 

A heavy to very heavy rainfall alert has been issued for the north Bengal districts. It may continue to rain in various districts in the north till next Tuesday. 
There may be some scattered rainfall in Kolkata and South Bengal districts as well in the next couple of days. Few spells of heavy rains lashed Kolkata and several other districts in south Bengal on Saturday afternoon due to thunder cloud. 
North Kolkata received maximum rainfall as a result there was a water logging situation in various pockets in the north. Around 66 mm rainfall was reported only at Manicktala pumping station area between 2-3 pm. 
South Kolkata received comparatively less rainfall. Ballygunj received 12 mm and Mominpur 1 mm rainfall. The MeT office said that monsoon trough was situated over the Himalayan foothill regions. 
As a result north Bengal districts will receive more rainfall. Though there may be scattered rainfall in south Bengal, the hot and humid condition will continue to haunt the people. The temperature during day time may go up in Kolkata and other south Bengal districts, the weather office said. 
Temperature will rise in the next 4-5 days in south Bengal. The highest temperature in Kolkata may hover around 35 degree Celsius while the lowest temperature may remain around 28 degree Celsius. 
Weather experts pointed out that the rain deficit which the state registered in the past two months may be compensated to some extent by the end of this month. 
South Bengal registered a rain deficit of around 47 per cent till middle of August but in case of north Bengal the figure stood at 4 per cent. North Bengal districts on a number of occasions received heavy showers for a prolonged time. 
Rain deficit in Kolkata stood at 59 per cent at the end of June this year.
