7 Fashion Trends For 2020

Our favourite part of a New Year is all the new Fashion Trends we’ll see,
covet and wear! With an eye on our wardrobe and another on our wallet
and with some help from stylists, we’ve put together a list of 7 fashion
trends for 2020.

  1. 1 Polka Dots

Your mom wore it, then forced you to wear it and then others wore it ironically on Instagram. But in 2020, we’re doing Polka dots right and how!

The Polka Dots love possibly began in the mid-1920s when Miss America was photographed in a polka dot bikini. Nevertheless, the first famous protagonist to wear the polka dot was, of course, Disney's Minnie Mouse in 1928.

Just like 2019 was the year of leopard prints, 2020 is all set to see a lot of feminine dresses and blouses in bold colours and polka dots.

  2. 2 Deconstructed Suits

Is there anything better than a well-fitted suit to convey style and power? Deconstructed suits have been mega-popular all year long in 2019— and they're going to continue to be spotted on runways and red carpets in 2020.

Some popular variations of the trend include suit jackets styled with bras or crop tops, sometimes worn with no pants underneath.

For spring, there was definitely some new takes on suiting like suiting with a Bermuda short, a three-piece suit with a vest, or a knit bra instead of a white blouse underneath the blazer.

  3. 3 Neon

“What do I want? To shock people, to force them to reflect,” said Yves Saint Laurent in 1971 after the presentation of his infamous Scandale collection.

Neon is exactly that - a blatant call for attention and reaction! While neon has been the trend for nearly 2 years now, it shows no sign of slowing down.

You can go all out neon or keep it small and sharp with small details of the eye-arresting green.

  4. 4 Leather

Once reserved strictly for winter and fall, leather is ready to have its moment during spring 2020 as well.

The material was spotted on spring 2020 runways from Paris to New York in just about every form—from to skirts and pants at Alexander McQueen and Marni to colourful jackets at Coach 1941 and Bottega Veneta.

Get the look right for the season by opting for a colourful skirt or jacket iteration that can be styled countless ways. Classic colours black, brown and tan are always an option, as well.

  5. 5 Crochet

Crochet is getting a cool update in spring 2020. Think polished suiting, ultra-feminine dresses, and eveningwear that are modern with a distinctive touch of Grandma’s handmade crochet.

As the fashion business looks for ways to become more sustainable, there’s something unique about a trend that embraces a leisurely, handmade technique of making clothes, which can be passed down generation after generation and end up as a cherished family heirloom that lasts forever.

  6. 6 The 1970s

Ah, the 1970s! Fashion was expressive and fun and people wore jumpsuits, turtlenecks, hot pants and everything in between.

Prints and patterns from the 1970s are coming back in a huge way — we're already seeing a nod to the decade in current fall-fashion trends with colours like burnt orange and mustard and corduroy clothing.

Plus many design elements from the '70s will be big in 2020, including double-breasted styles, flared hemlines, and wide lapels. But the biggest comeback of all? Bell-bottoms! Get ready to raid your parents’ wardrobe.

  7. 7 Green Fashion

2019 was the year when we became increasingly aware and educated about climate change.

What good is activism if it does not reflect in our clothes as well? With this in mind, green fashion – recycled, thrifted and clothes made from good-for-the-environment raw material are all set to rule the runway.
