Sridevi Bungalow Trailer: Insensitive And Distasteful

“Sridevi is just the name of my character,” claimed Priya Prakash Varrier the girl who became famous overnight for her wink, but one look at the trailer of her debut Hindi movie titled Sridevi Bungalow and even a halfwit will know what the Film is about, no matter what she or the makers claim!

Priya Prakash Varrier’s wink might have made her famous but being a little human would have taken her far

Sadly for Priya her dreams of a Bollywood debut might just be shelved. For all those who haven’t watched the trailer yet, the teaser that released a few days back is around one and a half minute long and shows Priya as a superstar who’s lonely and has her lying cold and still in a bathtub. Reminding one of those equally insensitive horrific sketches some of the news channels telecast on a loop during the time of Sridevi’s death.

The late actress Sridevi’s producer husband Boney Kapoor has apparently sent a legal notice to the makers and Priya. He’s trying to move every mountain to make sure the film is shelved. It is reported that Boney sent the notice as soon as the trailer was released.

The director Prashant Mambully however claims the film is a crime thriller and also that he is a huge Sridevi fan. Janhvi Kapoor too has not taken it well and at a recent event when she was asked to talk about the film, Janhvi walked out of the media interactions.

As if the whole insensitive coverage of the actresses death in February last year was not enough, now a film based on her death! While it’s great to make biopics on someone’s life, wrecking a dead woman’s reputation is not only distasteful but also disgusting and insensitive. It makes you question humanity. Yes, I was and will always be a huge Sridevi fan but this is NOT because I am a fan. What I am sharing here is emotions of many people I have spoken to and discussed about the same. Why not a film that stresses more about her life as an actress, her films and about the brilliant actress she was? Is it right to glorify her death?

How many of you would go and watch a film that is probably half baked and talks out of a hat about a woman they probably didn’t even know closely enough, who is now dead, leaving behind a family especially two young girls who are still mourning and hurting?
