A Guide to a Lake District Walking Holiday

Considering a Walking holiday in the Lake District – here are some great tips.

1. Consider a Walk with Different Scenery

It is a good idea to consider a walk with different scenery. Otherwise, you will get used to the scenery and it will no longer be as beautiful as it looked before. As such, you need to opt for a walk with varied scenery such as our Lake District and Hadrian’s Wall trip. Apart from enjoying what the natural scenery has to offer, you will also pass by William Wordsworth’s home and walk along Hadrian’s Wall.

2. Choose a Walk That Suits You

Different people have different abilities and there is no one size fits all when it comes to walks in the Lake District. For instance, shorter walks are ideal for walking beginners. Start with shorter walks and build up as you become more experienced. However, always remember that your main aim is to enjoy the experience. So, don’t overdo it to enjoy the experience.

Our Just You walks will suit your needs as they can be shortened to suit a walking beginner. If you want to skip a part of the walk, we will arrange a meeting with you later. Our coach stays with us for the whole day meaning that there is a lot of flexibility.

3. Bring a Packed Lunch

If you walk on an empty stomach, you will likely lose lack energy needed to help you walk. Even though our walks have designated stopping points where we can sit down to eat, we also offer a packed lunch just in case.

4. Choose a Qualified Guide

When you choose a qualified guide, you will not have to worry about getting lost during your Walking Holiday. A qualified guide will answer any questions you have about a certain location and help you avoid getting lost. We have Holiday Directors on all our walking holidays, but we also have an expert guide who is there on all the walks.

5. Wear a Good Pair of Walking Boots

During any walking holiday, it is good to wear a good pair of walking boots even if you will not be climbing big hills. Break the boots in before your holiday. This is because you may be tempted to wear your new boots as soon as you arrive. If you did not break the boots in, it may rub and make your walking holiday a less than fantastic experience.

6. Wear the Right Clothes

Another important thing to do when you go for a walk is to wear the right clothing. Choose your clothes depending on the weather. Bringing your waterproofs is a good idea. Even if it rains, you will enjoy your walk as the waterproof will make you have as much fun as when you walk in bright sunshine.

7. Wear Sun Cream and Sunglasses

Ensure that you pack your SPF and sunglasses. When you are outdoors, it is good to protect your skin from sun damage by blocking UV radiation from being absorbed by your skin. And since you will be outside for hours during your walking holiday, it will be essential for you to wear sun cream.

8. Bring Your Walking Poles

If you have walking poles, bring them if possible. Most of the guests don’t bring their poles and while we always have a few spares, it can be better if you can use your poles.

9. Bring Your Camera

Since you will experience beautiful scenery on our walks, it is good to bring your camera so that you can capture such memorable moments.
