King George V's Coronation Medal, 1911

Circular silver medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the crowned head and shoulders of King George V and Queen Mary in coronation robes facing left within a wreath of laurel and roses, signed ‘B.M.’ at the base (for the great Australian sculptor Sir Bertram Mackennal, K.C.V.O., R.A., 1863-1931); the reverse with the crowned cipher of King George V above the date ‘22 June 1911’ within a circular beaded border; on probably original shortened ribbon. The medal was instituted to mark the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary on 22 June 1911 and, for the first time, was awarded not only to those present at the coronation but to other eminent persons. In all, 15,901 medals were awarded; the medal is not often found.
Price : $ 100
