Where Does Success Actually Come From?

Trees Come From Thin Air

Here is a curious fact: trees get their substance (trunk, branches, roots and leaves) directly from the air. Not from the ground as most people expect. They consume air, by ‘chewing down’ on carbon dioxide (CO²), next they use energy from the sun to pull the CO² apart and keep the carbon (C) while disposing of the oxygen (O²), which is returned into the atmosphere. According to Richard Feynman one of the foremost scientists of the twentieth century: “trees absorb carbon and water from the air and that’s how they get the stuff they are made of.”

Strong Profitable Companies Also Come From ‘Thin Air’

Where to get Business traction that builds a strong company also comes as a bit of a surprise. When you look at Successful Companies you can’t readily see the problems they solved and it’s even more challenging to see the processes they used to solve their problems. Or the curiosity that fuels the venture.

If you know what to look for you can sometimes ‘see’ the solutions they’ve implemented, but it’s easier for most of us to see the real-world results they’ve achieved. Just like it’s easier for most people to see the tree than it is for them to wrap their mind around where it came from – out of Thin Air.

That’s the nature of the problem. Trees are built from what appears to be nothing and the raw materials that Companies are built with are also hard to see – problem solving and profits. Even if there was investment capital successful companies have already paid it back or they are well on their way to doing just that and more. In successful companies the original capital is returned to the investors just like trees return oxygen into the atmosphere.

The goal is to create something from nothing and have fun doing it. Am I wrong here? Just a thought to start 2016.

Trees can be cut down and turned into two by fours which can then be used to frame a house. Or they can be swung around until they hit somebody in the back of the head. At which point it might not be all that appropriate to say: “quit whining, it’s just made from air, you big crybaby.”

Perhaps this article will spark the curiosity you need to achieve business success.
