If you’re in for a long drive, there’s a chance that Drowsiness might kick in which puts your and other people’s safety at risk. Staying alert at all times while on the Road is a must so here are a few tips to help you stay awake while Driving.
Get a good night’s rest
Avoid staying up late if you know you’ll be spending much of the next day driving. Nothing beats giving your body ample rest so you will feel 100 percent on the road the next day.
Have a driving partner
Having someone to take your place when fatigue and drowsiness sets in is a good way to avoid any untoward incident. You can switch places every 2 to 3 hours so the other can rest or possibly take a nap.
Caffeine
While nothing beats giving yourself the much needed rest, you can drink caffeine to stay awake and alert on the road for a few hours. Make sure however that you don’t over do it as excessive caffeine intake may cause some to be fidgety.
Avoid alcohol or medicines with drowsiness as side effects
Never consume alcohol even in small amounts when you’re in for a long drive. Also, avoid taking medicines that can cause drowsiness such as antihistamines as much as possible before taking the road.
Take a mid-drive nap
If you’re starting to sense that drowsiness is about to take over. Find a safe location, pull over and take a 15-20 minute nap. This helps you stay alert when you give your body short breaks. Take note however that this may make you groggy for a few minutes after waking up so rush to driving right after your nap.
