The Constant Update

Time has changed and more than ever, the interval between updates for products and services are increasingly shorter. Companies need to come with new products and/or marketing campaigns on a much faster Pace. We are increasingly impatient and our attention span is shorter. The culture of this fast paced world creates a vicious circle where our expectations for speed have reach new heights forcing suppliers and creators to constantly accelerate developments. A self-fulfilling prophecy.

New companies are emerging promising you a delivery for any products in less than 1 hour. With the move to a digital world, time is becoming a key component of value. People working in the digital industry need to be constantly connected and follow the latest trends and innovations to not fall behind.

Some more Traditional markets have for the moment kept their traditional pace. We can think about many kinds of products or services which have an important human aspect in their making and more importantly where nature has for the moment limited innovation (think about the meat industry where you have a set of predefined cuts — people are not inventing new cuts everyday).

Still, even those industries are challenged by the pace of technological Progress. In many parts of their value chain or in their marketing, those industries also need to adapt and benchmark the most innovative markets. This is one of the reason why “disruption” became such a buzz word as entrepreneurs are on the constant outlook for the opportunity to make an impact on traditional industries. In general, they leverage the advancements of a category and apply similar models in a traditional industry.

It will be interesting to see how we will deal with this accelerating pace of progress in the years ahead. We can already think that progress on the pace of progress will have to be made!
