Family business: Jade of Beyond the Stars

What is your business and what do you offer?

As a sleep consultant I specialise in bespoke solutions to sleep challenges. I work virtually with all of the Families that I work with, whether that be through online workshops, online call support and the majority of my work is dedicated to 1-1 planning and Consultations.

As I customise my plans to suit the little ones, and their personality traits I do these assessments virtually via really simple google forms. This works really well, and allows me to gain all of the insights into the family and allow me to start creating their sleep plan!

How did you get started? When did you launch?

When my youngest was born, we were faced with a number of sleep challenges that I just couldn’t figure out. I felt so lost, and when I seen an opportunity to learn about baby sleep and train to become a sleep consultant I jumped at the chance. I wanted to support other families so that they didn’t feel lost in the world of sleep, and they knew they had support.

I trained throughout Spring/Summer 2021, and by August I had handed in my notice for the end of my maternity leave and started up business! I had a line up of families who needed sleep support – it was the most amazing feeling.

Favourite thing about your own business

The Transformation! When I work with families through their challenges to reach their sleep goals, I always make sure that we do. When they come back to me with their testimonials on how their lives have changed – it truly makes me feel like I have the best job in the world! When parents get their evenings back, more time with siblings, more rest and focus – and generally happier families – there is no feeling like it knowing you’ve helped make that happen. Seeing the little ones so happy and content as well as the parents is truly why I do this.

What do you least enjoy about your business?

This is a tough question – I love what I do. But I think my biggest thing is creativity – I need to be a certain head space to make that flow, and it isn’t my strongest point in terms of finding value topics for social media etc. I’m best to sit down and have a creative hour of content planning than on the go!

How do you fit work in around family?

My time where I take on consultations does vary – it can be in the day and it can be in the evenings once my own two are in bed. This often suits families as well to get focused time with me once their own little ones are down.

I get up before the kids and fit some tasks in random hours of the day. It can be sporadic but I make it work.

What has worked well?

I have invested in external business courses which has really helped – I truly believe you need to invest to get things back. I couldn’t have gotten where I am or get my vision/goals without working with other specialists such as Lisa Johnson & Charlie Day to get there!

Where do you hope to be in 5 years time

My current project is the launch of my new “Exhausted to Thriving” program – a course which also has bespoke group calls to help families along the way with their own unique situation. I’ll then be moving to launch my own “Exhausted to Thriving” membership.

In 5 years I want to aim to then work with other sleep consultants across the world and teach on these aspects in how to grow and scale while still keeping the unique approaches we have with families.
