What makes your UK holiday great?

Researchers have revealed as many as 72 percent of Brits have holidayed (or will holiday) in the UK this year, with exploring more of the country (61 percent) emerging as the top reason for getting out and about in the Great British Isles.

Overall, 82 percent of those surveyed agreed the UK is one of the best places in the world for a holiday.

And the research revealed a definitive list of things which make holidaying in Britain GREAT, with pub beer gardens (49 percent), scoffing fish and chips out of the paper on the beach (48 percent), renting a picturesque cottage by the sea (38 percent), visiting castles (36 percent) and not having a luggage limit (34 percent) topping the list.

Walking along the pier (33 percent), the smell of country air (33 percent) and driving through country lanes (29 percent) also featured high, as did heading off early to ‘beat the traffic’ (21 percent) and finding the perfect spot to throw down your picnic blanket (20 percent).

One in six of those surveyed by webuyanycar  (16 percent) love shouting ‘I can see the sea’ before anyone else on a Road Trip, while 14 percent love devouring a 99 with a flake.

Richard Evans, head of technical services at webuyanycar, said: “It’s great to see that lots of Brits will be hitting the road this summer for the ultimate UK holiday, despite the option to holiday abroad.

“Although we can’t make the road Trip any quicker, webuyanycar can provide a fast way to sell your old car so you can upgrade to one that makes the journey a little more comfortable and reduce the chances of breaking down during the road trip.”

Driving to the airport (61 percent), on the side of the motorway (60 percent), anywhere in the dark (42 percent) and on a country lane in the middle of nowhere (40 percent) are thought of as the worst places to break down.

Nine out of the ten polled (91 percent) believe that holidaying in the UK can be just as good as going abroad, with Cornwall (54 percent), Lake District (47 percent), Scotland (42 percent) and Devon (39 percent) topping the list of ideal UK holiday destinations.

88 percent love and consider the car journey a part of the holiday, with almost half (48 percent) admitting that nothing beats kicking off the trip with a sing along to the radio.

A third (33 percent) munch on boiled sweets as soon as they sit down in the car, while a similar number (32 percent) always make a playlist of summer songs before setting off. Sarnies for a motorway picnic (29 percent), a flask of coffee (28 percent) and eye-spy (21 percent) are also considered essentials for a UK road trip.

98 percent agree that the little things that happen on a holiday make it memorable rather than the big and expensive things.

Despite three quarters (74 percent) saying that it is easier to relax on a UK holiday than one abroad, nearly a third (31 percent) have broken down on a road trip with one in six (16 percent) confessing it ruined their holiday.
