Making Working From Your Kitchen Work for You

With the emotional rollercoaster that is Covid starting up all over again, we’re all trying to make sense of our lives, our parenting duties and everything in between. But arguably, the biggest challenge we’ve all got is being able to work from home. Some people might have already got this down but others have still struggled to make their home into a working office. But with this in mind, the obvious approach is to head to the Kitchen. How can we make the most of working in the kitchen? Ultimately, it’s not the easiest, but here are some simple ways to get it right.

Make a Couple of Changes

If you have the opportunity, now would be ideal to make a Couple of alterations to the aesthetics. You can make little changes. For example, you may want to make the space a bit brighter. You can do this by adding little touches like flowers or a new tablecloth. But you can also make a couple of big changes that won’t necessarily break the bank. The kitchen can be an expensive thing to completely make over. But this is where something like vinyl flooring can make all the difference. When you switch up this component, it will make the space feel different. By making a couple of changes you can reinvigorate the space.

A Removable Table

Your workstation is vital for so many reasons. It’s not just about giving you the space to work but it’s about finding the right workstation that makes you more productive. A removable table is far better for your kitchen because if you are using the dining table you are not necessarily in a comfortable position to do work. You can certainly add something like a Standing Desk because this will work better for you in so many ways. If you cannot afford a standing desk, think about putting your laptop on the kitchen counter. The most difficult thing about getting this right is that you may find yourself uncomfortable, whatever the angle. But a standing desk is something you can adjust to your specific needs.

Reducing the Traffic

The most important thing you have to consider when you are working in the kitchen is how you can focus. Being in the kitchen means that you are in the one location that gets the most traffic. So you have two options, you can either ban everybody from the kitchen while you are working (which might not work), or you can make sure that you distract yourself effectively. This is easier said than done when you have a lot of children running around. But what you can do is deprive your peripheries. Make sure that you have sound cancelling headphones, but also make sure that you are in a part of the kitchen that is away from any sign of life.

It is not easy, especially when you have a lot of work to do, but if the kitchen is the only place for you to work, you’ve got to make sure that it works in your favour.
