One of my fantasies last year when Oil Prices kept rising almost logarithmically was to look for an Oil Job. I personally think we have hit a period of Peak Oil. Many of the great oil fields have been declining for years and even decades. Oil is not a renewable resource, and we use it for so many tasks. Besides that, so many developing countries have been increasing their wealth as a result of America outsourcing its job base, and carrying a continued and ever increasing trade deficit. These developing nations want the same lifestyle we have enjoyed. We have provided them the wealth to buy cars and subsequently to purchase gasoline.

Over the coming decades I can only imagine that Oil Jobs will become even more important and high paying! During the run-up of oil prices it was very cost competitive for oil companies to sift sand and remove tar and refine it in the Canadian oil sands fields. It only required $70 a barrel gasoline for that to be profitable. We are there again even though a major recession is occurring. The jobs at the oil sands fields produced many 6 figure earners.
