Well hello there!

I'm Haley Ryan. You can find out a little more about me here but to save time I'll give you the key information.

In 2011 I was medically discharged from the Royal Air Force due to a hip injury. I joined the RAF straight out of school so it was a huge culture shock. After all, I gave them almost 10 years of my life. At the time, we had just bought our first house. We were living in an area neither of us knew and we were both unemployed. It felt like my whole world had crumbled around me and I was scared. What was I going to do now? How would we afford the mortgage payments?

Luckily, I had done a makeup qualification while I had been in the RAF. I decided to look for a part-time job while trying to set up my own business as a makeup artist. I did all the things that I thought I should...

A Facepage page was set up, I worked with a bunch of photographers to build up my portfolio. I got really excited about a really cool font. I then used that font for my logo even though it wasn't very easy to read. I was all about the superficial things and had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I kept plodding along hoping that it would just figure itself out.

The business lasted for around 18 months before I finally gave up on it. I was bringing in less than £3000 per year. I was tired, because trying to market myself and working meant that I had no time to myself.

So why did it fail?

For me I think it was a combination of two things:

1. I had no idea what I was doing and didn't bother to research the best (and quickest) ways of doing things
2. I tried to go it alone

The first business may not have worked but I didn't give up. Instead, I surrounded myself with motivation people. People who were trying to pave their own future just like me and we learnt from each other. We inspired each other to be great. We motivated each other to be better and now...

Well, remember that house I bought in 2011, well now, in 2018 I own that house. The mortgage has been paid in full and next year we are planning the trip of a lifetime to America. I am definitely taking that as a win!
