Recently published State/ Union Territory Startup ranking- 2021 by DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade), Karnataka and Gujarat, has bagged the title of “Best Performer”.
DPIIT has lauded Karnataka by mentioning its exemplary initiatives such as launching engineering research and development policy to attract sector-focused incentives, creating regulatory sandboxes to avail exemptions from state and municipal laws, and developing modernistic policies to support innovation in disruptive sectors.
The state has been recognized as an institutional champion, an innovative leader, a procurement forerunner, a capacity-building pioneer, funding leader.

Dr CN Ashwath Narayan is Karnataka’s Minister for Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science & Technology.

Gujarat shared the title of ‘Best Performer’ with Karnataka. Gujarat has bagged this title for three years in a row. The States’ Startup Ranking 2021 were announced by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal. Gujarat has earned this title the highest number of times. The ‘Best Performer’ award was given by Union Minister Piyush Goyal to startup champions of Gujarat.
Some states like Haryana, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Sikkim and UT Lakhswadeep did not participate in this ranking.
Meghalaya is ranked as the ‘Best Performer’ among the Northeastern States
