How to Sell Yourself as an Expert

Step 1:  Become an Expert in something.
Step 2:  Let the world know about it now.

One of the best ways to drive Business is to become an expert or thought leader in your field.  Of course, you need some expertise first.  (That part is up to you.)  But once you have it, you need to let the world know about it.  Welcome to the "Freelance Marketplace" on LinkedIn.

Since you likely don’t have a great deal of access to the press, the next best thing is to offer your expertise to a community of your target customers.  There are many websites that facilitate these types of opportunities, but I’d like to highlight one that I've found to be the easiest to navigate while further enhancing my online reputation.

LinkedIn ProFinder
ProFinder is built on top of LinkedIn’s network in order to be network-driven.  When a consumer submits a project request, LinkedIn will send it to professionals in their network or extended network first.  They will also see common connections between themselves and you - the pro, something you can only get on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn believes its social network and the technology behind its economic graph offer up a better measure of trustworthiness.  The company is positioning ProFinder — powered by its 450 million members — as an important element in driving business to freelancers.

Here's how it works:  Users on LinkedIn actively solicit bid requests to business members.  From using the search feature on the site, they're able to hire top local freelancers related to their particular need.  All they need to do is answer a few questions about the services they're looking to hire.  As a registered freelancer, you'll then begin receiving requests from fellow professionals who need your help.  The process is conducive as do-it-yourself project management portal, allowing your freelance business to grow.  It's simple to use and if you're an expert in your field or trade, potential new clients will find you.

Each offer you provide will include a personalized message, price quote and access to your LinkedIn profile.  On top of that, the service directs customers with a link back to your business’s website.

By using LinkedIn ProFinder, the Freelance Marketplace provides tremendous opportunities to search, secure and hire you - placing you front and center as an expert for the service you provide.  Responding to requests for quotes will often lead to requests to connect and it can quickly get the ball rolling on building business relationships.
