Early life

Mark Zuckerberg was born in White Plains, New York on the 14th of May, 1984.  Mark was raised with his three sisters, Randi, Donna, and Arielle, in Dobbs Ferry, New York, which is a small Westchester County village just North of Midtown Manhattan.

At school, first a public high school and then the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy, Zuckerberg excelled academically, winning prizes in mathematics, astronomy, physics, and languages.

In his Harvard admission letter, Zuckerberg wrote that he could read and write in French, Latin, ancient Greek and Hebrew. Zuckerberg has three siblings, all sisters, who also were academically strong. 

Before the dominance and popularity of Zuckerberg’s programming, there was notoriety. In 2003, while at Harvard, Zuckerberg created a program called FaceMash, which followed the primitive rules of a “hot or not” game. Zuckerberg used Facebook photos of Harvard House for students to choose between two Harvardians.

About 500 people visited the site in the first four hours before Zuckerberg’s Internet connection was pulled’. The popularity of the site overwhelmed the Harvard Internet servers.

Zuckerberg then created something called Course Match, which let students see who was studying what course, to form study groups.

In February 2004, Zuckerberg launched ‘Thefacebook’, which would only be available to Harvard students. By the fourth day, thousands of people signed up. In under a week, 4,000 people from Harvard signed up to the first version of Facebook.
