Travel during the holidays can cause a lot of anxiety and stress. During last year’s long Thanksgiving weekend, AAA reported that almost 42 million Americans hit the road. That’s a whole lot of people to share the highway with.
Fortunately, there are plenty of tricks to help make your road trip smoother, such as timing your drive early in the morning or super late at night, and, of course, packing lots of snacks. There are also dozens of airport hacks to save you time and make sharing the terminal with thousands of other people a little bit less hectic and painful.
But what you should be focusing on is not why holiday travel is stressful – but rather, why Thanksgiving week is actually one of the best times to take advantage of a pretty awesome travel perk.
So what is this amazing hack that can help you save hundreds of dollars?
This coming week is THE best time to make your Christmas travel plans come to life.
According to Skyscanner Data, the best time to buy a Christmas flight is during the week of November 21st for Average Savings of 6.41%!
With an even more impressive discount, Skyscanner predicts the week of December 5th to be the best time to buy a New Year’s flight, with average savings of 10.57%!
And it’s not just flights that are going to be cheaper in the next few weeks. Expedia says it’s also a prime time to book all-inclusive package deals and cruises.
So if you haven’t yet decided where you’d like to spend the holidays, I suggest you decide fast.
Or, try being spontaneous and see where the cheapest ticket can take you.
Okay, so maybe not everyone will get to travel this holiday season … and this all might be really depressing to you.
There, there – don’t worry. We have good news for you too!
Gas prices in the U.S. are predicted to fall to an average of $2.01 in December, according to the site GasBuddy.com. Actually, even this month has seen a low average of $2.13. That’s the lowest since March. So while yes, the roads might be crowded this weekend, at least getting around will cost you a bit less.
So this Thursday, make sure your phone or laptop is amply charged and, kindly, find a way to excuse yourself from the dinner table so that you can book your Christmas vacation tickets at all-time low prices.
Here’s a more detailed chart created by SkyScanner; just in case you didn’t quite believe me.
