Musings: How To Have A Relaxing Airport Experience

I’ve been and out of airports all year and whilst some people may think its a stressful experience (*cough* latecomers), I find that it’s where I thrive and my organisation comes together. So here are a few ways you can have a Relaxing Airport experience…

Get There Early

The rule of thumb is 2 hours before domestic flights and 3-4 hours for international flights. I like to get there early enough to grab something to eat, browse and just ‘decompress’ before flying. You can never plan if you’re going to be held up in security either. Which leads me nicely on to…

Know Your Luggage Requirements

Check the dimensions with your airline. Check again. Check the model of your suitcase to be sure and get packing. Get to a point where you #KnowYourLuggage because no one wants to be Left Luggage right?

No one wants to be that person whose bag gets pulled up at the gate for being too big? Budget airlines are strict for a reason. However, if you purchase something at duty free, that counts as an extra bag right?

Separate Your Liquids Beforehand

I really don’t understand why people don’t do this before they travel? Grab a few extra bags on your next visit to the airport and you’ll be prepared for your next trip in no time. Don’t forget that they can’t be more than 100ml – try decanting them into travel size bottles and you won’t be embarrassed when the staff at security throw your big bottles away!

Comfortable and Loose Clothing

Travelling in tight and uncomfortable clothing is my idea of hell. Airport security ruins your outfit anyway. How many times have you had to take off your belt, shoes and any other accessories that messes with the metal detectors?

Check Out the Airport Facilities Beforehand

I always check out what facilities the airport has before I go and you may just find yourself surprised… or disappointed. Some airports like Gatwick offer discounts when you download their app and when airports are notoriously expensive, any pennies saved can go towards your first holiday cocktail right?

What do you do to make your airport experience relaxing?
