Travel to the Twin Cities of Gujarat

One former capital and the other the current one of Gujarat, the twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are two of the most developed ones of the state. Around 30 kilometres from each other, the two cities are on the bank of the Sabarmati River and have plenty of attractions to draw tourists. Some of them are:

Akshardham Temple:

Located in Gandhinagar, the Akshardham Temple has one of the largest complexes in India. Dedicated to Swaminarayan, the temple has an amazingly large garden of 15 acres that holds waterfalls, fountains, nurseries and rock arrangements.

Adalaj Trimandir:

Adalaj Trimandir is a temple set around 20 kilometres from Ahmedabad. It houses deities of three religions; Jainism, Shaivism and Vaishnavism. The temple is managed by Dada Bhagwan Foundation.

Bhadra Fort:

One of the magnificent monuments visited in Ahmedabad is the Bhadra Fort. Constructed by Sultan Ahmad Shah the fort has a palace, Clock Tower, Bhadri Kali Temple and the famous Teen Darwaza.

Jama Masjid:

Possibly the largest mosque in the Indian subcontinent during the time of the Sultan Ahmad Shah, Jama Masjid is still one of the most splendid mosques of India. It is situated right outside Bhadra Fort.

Kankaria Lake:

Located in the southern part of Ahmedabad, Kankaria Lake is the second biggest lake in Ahmedabad. The lake front and surrounding area has been developed as a tourist attraction and has a zoo, amusement park and the Nagina Wadi Garden.

Huthseeing Jain Temple:

The most visited Jain Temple in Ahmedabad, the Huthseeing Jain Temple is a two storied structure. The speciality of the temple is the Manastambha which is dedicated to the 15th Jain Tirthankar.

Calico Museum of textiles:

Popular for its art, sculptures and textile galleries, the Calico Museum of textiles is another attraction in the city of Ahmedabad. The Museum exercises great care in protecting the exhibits from dust and pollution.

Adalaj Step-Well:

Located in Adalaj village near Ahmedabad, the Adalaj Step-Well is an extraordinary water building that runs five stories deep. It is one of the most famous step wells in India and draws a large number of tourists.

Indroda Nature Park:

Considered to be the Jurassic Park of India, Indroda Nature Park in Gandhinagar is located on 400 hectares of land on the two banks of the Sabarmati River. It is known to be the second largest hatchery of dinosaur eggs in the world.
