What is needed for communication with the past or future is a system by which the past and the future can retrieve their messages to each other. I myself use this system and I have laid the system out in my examples in previous post in this blog.
If point A and B know the messages to each other will between weak check sum ranges C and D then point A and B can use cryptology to construct the messages between check sum ranges C and D and use a search engine to retrieve the messages they sent to each other. The messages have mass and energy after being reconstructed but before hand when the messages are between point A and point B and not physical yet then they have no mass nor energy which allows them to time travel from the past to the future or from the future to the past. When the information matches up with the real time line time travel has occurred and causality has been violated.
The information is physical before and after time travel but between the time travel from point A to point B the information is not physical. Only before and after. This qualifies as time travel as long as the information is real after being reconstructed and pertains to the true time line at point A and point B. Both Einsteins and Maxwell's equations are satisfied with this method.
When it comes to the time line it is only humans that perceive one time line. Real time travel does not care about one future or one past. To put it in terms people can understand if anyone remembers star trek deep space nine the worm hole aliens there existence was lived at all places in time at once verses how we live one moment at a time. They could see the entire time line in their plane of existence.
Now this was just a movie but I am using it to make a point. So, with my methods of time travel using a range of weak check sums all possible messages one could send or receive to themselves are others in the future or the past within a fixed amount of space are perceived (as much as possible per computer technology.) at once.
So, the time line is now study-able outside of the moment. In a plane of existence where the future and the past can be seen all at once. And not just with text messages but with all forms of computer media.
The reason time travel with this method works is because the Uncertainty principle does not prevent the future or past from being known. And for that fact does not prevent alternate reality from being known.
Lets say you have a doctors appointment next week at 2pm. You know next week at 2pm where you will be or plan to be. So, why could not time travel computer media being found with a computer, binary counters, encryption technology, and search engines or bots be any different? It wouldn't be any different. It is the reason I can and do time travel with my computer.
So we did not build a big fancy machine with lots of lights that needs a nuclear reactor and looks like a flying computer gaming case with seats for at least one person. So what. The objective is still achieved.
Those objectives are time travel to other places per the real and alternate time lines by way of decrypting information out of time and space itself with cryptology and viewing it as computer media.
Just buy a big fancy gaming chair for your computer and sit in it like captain Kirk off Star Trek. That is what I do. Below is a picture of my captains chair for my time machine - (My computer)

How to study the time line as a time traveler.
The definition of time - The interval between two events.
The definition of a time line - A collection of events.
The definition of alternate time lines - A collection of different events from the current time line.
The definition of time travel - Being able to view non-linearly events in time, participating non-linearly, or change events in a time line non - linearly.
The definition of time traveler - Being the person viewing non-linearly events in time, participating non-linearly in the time line, or changing events in the time line non-linearly.
My method of time travel - Using one or more computers to create as computer media all possible events in the time line or alternate time lines and search thru those events as much as technology will allow thus bringing about the method of time travel by violating causality.
