Jaguars vs. Rams: Week 6 sack analysis

This didn’t look like a very good day from the offensive line, but was it totally on them?

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive line had their worst game to date against the Los Angeles Rams — and it’s no surprise. That Rams defensive line is very good and Aaron Donald is the best interior pass rusher in the league right now. With a backup in at center and inconsistency at guard for both spots, it was only a matter of time until we were exposed.

Jacksonville allowed five sacks on the day. How many of those were on the offensive line and how many were on skill players missing blocks or even Blake Bortles not reading the field correctly?

Let’s find out.

Sack #1: 3rd and 5 at JAX 36, 11:00 in 1Q

The Rams were going to give the Jaguars fits in the pass protection game, we knew this. Connor Barwin gets the pressure started right away with a stunt behind Aaron Donald that brings backup center Tyler Shatley a little too far to his right. It’s an easy path to the quarterback.

Fault: Tyler Shatley

Sack #2: 1st and 10 at JAX 18, 3:56 left in 2Q

A five-man rush with a spy on the quarterback. This offensive line, even with Leonard Fournette as one of the blockers, should be able to handle this. Instead, Tyler Shatley isn’t able to handle No. 95 Tyrunn Walker and it causes a bit of a panic. I think Bortles Left the pocket too early on this one and was the reason the play imploded.

Fault: Blake Bortles

Sack #3: 3rd and 6 at LAR 19, 6:01 left in 3Q

Aaron Donald is so good, man. Patrick Omameh has filled in at left guard nicely, but almost any guard in the NFL is gonna have trouble with this man.

Fault: Patrick Omameh

Sack #4: 2nd and 10 at LAR 28, 12:48 left in 4Q

What a mess along the left side of the line. Patrick Omameh leaves to help Tyler Shatley early which leaves an open lane for No. 97 Morgan Fox to take an inside move on Cam Robinson who thinks he’s going to be blocking the defender around the edge. Blake Bortles also panics a bit and runs right into Fox’s lane.

Fault: Miscellaneous

Sack #5: 1st and 19 at JAX 10, 9:39 left in 4Q

You can see Chris Ivory’s eyes on blitzing linebacker No. 52 Alec Ogletree before the snap and that he and left guard Patrick Omameh are confused as to who is going to pick him up and who’s going for the interior rusher No. 90 Michael Brockers. The end result is an easy sack.

Fault: Chris Ivory and Patrick Omameh
