49ers said to be “one of many teams” interested in cornerback David Amerson

With cornerback being one the many holes the 49ers have to fill this offseason, the news (per his agent) that they are one of the many Teams Interested in free-agent David Amerson, should come as no surprise.

Amerson, who is 26, had been a member of the Oakland Raiders defensive backfield until the team released him this month. A second-round pick of the Washington Redskins in 2013, Amerson was signed to a four-year, $3.85 million contract on May 7, 2013. He was waived by the Redskins in September of 2015 after failing to live up to expectations.

Amerson has already visited with the Chicago Bears and is scheduled to meet with the Houston Texans today. While no visit has been planned to come to Santa Clara, NFL Network has reported that he has meetings set with three other teams this week.

The 49ers are certainly going to be looking to both free agency and this April’s draft to plug the numerous holes they have. Amerson could be the first domino to fall for their continued rebuild of the roster.

At 6’1, 205 pounds, Amerson has the size that Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh are looking for. If they do sign him, ensuring that he doesn’t have to uproot his life in the bay area, the hope would be that he can duplicate the success he had in 2015. That season he posted four-interceptions with one returned for a touchdown, and a forced fumble.
