Peru Vs Denmark: All Important Points Marked As Denmark Spoils Peru’s Celebrations

Peru’s first World Cup game since 1982 was spoiled in Peru Vs Denmark game by a 0-1 victory to the Danish Dynamites as expected in Saransk on Saturday. Peru started the game looking like they wanted to make up for the 36 years of World Cup football that they had missed with an aggressive offence. And it looked like it Peru will be rewarded for their effort when a penalty was given to the South Americans late in the first half. The penalty was not immediately called but signaled after a quick video review. Christian Cueva stepped up but hit as bad a penalty shot as you will see, sending the ball far over the goal.

However, Denmark finally broke the deadlock in the 60th minute when Danish star Christian Eriksen, who had something of a quiet game, put a neat through ball for Yussuf Poulsen to drive it home giving them the necessary lead in the Peru Vs Denmark game. Peru upped the pace once behind and had many chances over the last 30 minutes of the Peru Vs Denmark game but could not capitalize. Denmark’s keeper, Kasper Schmeichel made several crucial stops to maintain the lead. With France beating Australia earlier in the day, Denmark joined them on top of the group and left Peru with a lot of work to do to have successful return to the FIFA World Cup. Although Peru left out star-man Paolo Guerrero on the bench, they started the Peru Vs Denmark game with a very high intensity and took charge of the game in the opening minutes. Andre Carillo had a beautiful chance for Peru in the 12th minute, blasting a shot from 18 yards straight into the hands of Schmeichel. Denmark slowly started to build into the game and began to have more possession of the ball which produced some half-chances. In the 28th minute, Carillo played a sliding ball into the path of Farfan who took a quick touch before taking a shot but it was blocked by Danish captain and CB Simon Kjaer. Few minutes later, Danish midfielder William Kvist had to be substituted in the 33rd minute due to an injury and was replaced by Ajax player Lasse Schone. The No.7 was an important part of Denmark’s team as stated by coach Age Hareide. Just before the end of the first-half of Peru Vs Denmark game, Christian Cueva was fouled in the box in the 44th minute but the referee did not see the play. The video assisted replay booth called down to the field and the official reversed his decision and granted Cueva the penalty. But he airmailed the shot and left the field after the opening period in tears. Just before the hour mark, Cueva drove deep inside the 18 yard box cutting and dodging across 3 defenders. He then chipped a pass across to Carillo, who nudged it on to Flores but the winger couldn’t finish. In the following counter-attack, Eriksen flicked an immaculate through ball towards Poulsen who gave away the penalty in the first half, took a first time shot and scored. Peru’s all time top scorer Paolo Guerrero was subbed son for Flores just two minutes later and made his presence felt right away forcing Kasper Schmeichel into a save from a header from right outside the 6 yard box. In the 67th minute, Martin Braithwaite was subbed on for Sisto to provide Denmark with some fresh legs down the wings. With 10 minutes left to play Danish CB Christensen was subbed off for Jorgensen which turned many heads. In the final minutes of the game, Peru went all out and threw everything they had at the Denmark goal but Danish keeper Kasper Schmeichel had an answer for everything. The Peru Vs Denmark game ended 1-0 in Denmark’s favor and the Danes look like the favourites to finish 2nd in the group and qualify unless Peru can pull off a miracle and defeat the French.
