Semedo faces jail time over gun incident

The La Liga football action returned this weekend as teams like Barcelona look to continue their march on the title, while Villarreal remain in a battle for Champions League qualification.

But Villarreal CF have been in a center of a media storm involving their defender Ruben Semedo who faces jail time after an incident at a night club.

According to local news outlet, Las Provincias, the Portuguese allegedly pointed out a gun and threatened an employee at a local night club in Valencia.

The report reveals that the employee has already given a testimony against Semedo explaining that they had argument when a pistol was brought out.

The incident occurred last year in November 17 and the altercation already started inside the nightclub. And later the Villarreal man told him again to “phone security” as he dialled for help.

The player then allegedly took the phone from the employee’s hand and threw it to the floor before warning him: “If you call the police I’ll come back for you.”

The public prosecutor is already considering whether to begin legal proceedings and faces a jail sentence of two years and a restraining order preventing him from coming with 100 metres of the alleged victim and the night club where the incident is reported to have taken place.

Confirming the incident, Portuguese paper O Jogo quotes Villarreal manager, Javi Calleja as saying:”There is an open investigation and until we finish we will not give an opinion.”
