How Much is Love Worth?

Tags: love
Would you be willing to give up your most precious belonging for someone you love? Maybe it's a ransom situation, maybe it's just a question of loyalty and how much you Love. It makes me think more about the identity of a superhero, keeping their true self consealed, even from those they care most about, for fear that they could be harmed and constantly sought after by the villan of the story. Though they have this burden of a secret for a purpose, so much of the time, they end up telling lies and keeping secrets, causing a drift between loves and friendships in their lives. One sacrifice for a greater one, but when you think about it, which is the greater act of love? Probably the one that keeps them safe even if it can cause some hurt from secrets in the relationship. God asks us to take on this task of making sacrifices of love each and every day, in every relationship we have. It can be challenging, sometimes even more than the life of a superhero. However, as children of God, it is our duty to represent Christ for others in the world, first and foremost through doing everything we can for those we love.
Today's Gospel states:'When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." A second time he said to him, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep. Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you girded yourself and walked where you would; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish to go." (This he said to show by what death he was to glorify God.) And after this he said to him, "Follow me"'(John 21:15-19).
Today's reading talks about how we need to be willing to give up everything for love, for faith. If we're not willing to give up all of the hurt, the pain, the desire for treasures that really don't mean much, then how can we truly give everything to sacrifice in love? God shows us the ultimate sacrifice of unconditional love through Jesus His Son, dying on the Cross and giving us hope through his resurrection. There is hope for the world, for all of us to both give and recieve this love, and it starts with us. Are there areas in your life right now where you could be making some sacrifices for those you love? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you be an example of sacrificial love for the world.
Today we pray:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing me what it means to love, through Jesus Your Son. Help me to show this same sacrificial love for those around me, and give up the things in my life that are pulling me away from You.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
