Update on Hoboken Train Crash and Commuting Tonight

Latest update on Hoboken Train Crash

One person is confirmed dead and 108 people were injured. The engineer in is critical condition and cooperating with authorities. The NJ Transit train that hit the Hoboken station was traveling at a high rate of speed. There are no details on why or what exactly caused the accident yet. There is also no estimate of when the NJ Transit Hoboken terminal will reopen. The immediate area surrounding the terminal is closed off to civilians. Jersey City streets that are closed going into Hoboken are Jersey Avenue at 18th Street, Grove Street at 18th Street, Marin Blvd. at 18th Street and New York Avenue at Ravine.

The Hoboken PATH station’s structural integrity has been deemed safe and PATH service into and out of Hoboken is planned to resume at 3 pm today and to be fully functioning for tonight’s commute. In the mean time for service to and from Hoboken take the Jersey City PATH train to Journal Square then transfer to NJ Transit bus #87 which boards in lane D3. NJ Transit will be expanding bus, rail and light rail service to make up for the closure of Hoboken Terminal. Please check the NJ Transit website for their continued updates on their rail for service to and from Hoboken in areas outside of Jersey City and NYC.

NJ Transit has increased service on NJT bus #126 between Hoboken and NYC. Board NJT bus 126 at Washington and First Street in Hoboken to Port Authority station in NYC. Hudson Bergen Light Rail service is still suspended into and out of the Hoboken terminal. All 8th Street to Hoboken service is being terminated at Newport.  All Tonnelle Avenue to Hoboken service is being terminated at 2nd Street. NY Waterway will continue to cross honor NJ Transit bus & rail tickets at all terminals until 8 pm tonight and will have extra vessels scheduled to assist passengers to their final destinations. Service from the 14th Street terminal (Hoboken North) has not been affected. Service is suspended from NJ Transit Hoboken South terminal.
