The Four Hour Work Year

The other day a fellow gets in my car and says, “Have you ever heard of the Book, The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss?”

I thought, yeah like 10 years ago. Back when I was working four hours a week, or less.

“Yeah I heard of the book,” I said, and that book has been on my mind for 10 years. I originally bought the book because I hated on anybody who had a brilliant idea. It’s always been gut wrenching awful watching somebody climb the success ladder handing down the books I should be writing.

Anyway this fellow in my car was a huge fan of Mr. Ferriss. I can’t even remember why he was in my car; I must be like my dad– our memory is good, it’s just short.

All I remember was the fellows excitement, and ME pouting that Mr Ferriss is so awesome.

It’s true, I just can’t stand awesome people because they make me feel too good about my life. They make me feel like I can do it. They make me want to live better. Who am I kidding??? I love awesome people. I even love the SOB who triggered this year end blog post.

Ok, But we’re talking about the four hour work year.

There is one job I do that takes less then four hours/year. You may of heard of it, fingernail cutting. I’m pretty efficient at cutting my nails but my girl, Jody Lea, spends one hour every five weeks at the nail salon- big job.

I had an even bigger job for an entire year, medium length hair. That job burned up so much time I bought a hat.

Now I’m not going to get into all of my jobs but let me tell you that 2016 was not a time to WORK. Unless you did what people told you to do, “work smarter, not harder.”

Smart people don’t have to work 100 hours/day.

Smart people have routine just like fitness buffs, CEO’s, and the two Mormon boys who knocked on my door the other day, had routine.

We all have a routine and there are only three things that can affect it.

  1. Remove yourself from your surroundings
  2. Have an epiphany (like being on the death bed or having a baby)
  3. Tiny Habits

I’d say one and two are common sense so let’s talk about creating tiny habits because there is a website is called http://tinyhabits.com/, and it was created by Dr. BJ Fogg, who is a professor at a little known university called Stanford.

My good friend, the young professor told me about tiny habits a couple years ago but I’ve always been to busy doing my other jobs. This year is different, the fun is over and I’m cutting my hair short to free up more time to make more money.

BUT First, Jodes and I are exercising rule number 1 to enhancing your life: remove yourself from your surroundings.

We’ll be in Mexico

Hopefully rule two doesn’t happen while we’re there.

Excellent, and when we get back it’ll be time to start learning how to create those tiny habits Dr. BJ Fogg talks about!!!
