The current House of Bernadotte, the Swedish Royal family begun when Colonel Jean Baptiste Jules Bernadotte was victorious in the French army. At the time the Crown Prince Karl August death Sweden was in need of a new monarch. A request was made to Jean Baptiste who married Bernardine Eugénie Désirée Clary on the 17th of August 1798.

As of 1810 the Bernadotte couple decided to relocate to Sweden where Jean Baptiste begun to ruel as the Swedish king Karl XIV Gustaf.
