If the student is not a novice and has a strong personality, the private approach is the right way to start the voice/vocal development. If, on the other hand, we are talking about a complete beginner who has never taken any speech or singing lessons, let alone any other instructional sessions in his life, the group approach to start with for somebody like that would be the right answer.
Not only the above-described person will greatly benefit out of it, but will learn a lot to become prepared for the private, more intense sessions. I usually do not take more then 6 to (absolute maximum) 7 people in a group, to be able to provide the semi-private instruction within the group setting.
Due to that fact, the participants are not always put on the spot and have time to relax and to observe what others have been doing right or wrong. In Russia, we use to have a saying:
“Not too very smart people are learning from their own mistakes, but the smarter ones are learning from the mistakes of others.”
I think that the above is a very profound and the vocal interactive workshop allows the participants to learn from others and adapt the positive outcome for themselves. I personally conduct those workshops and find them very educational and fun to run.
Needless to say, after the participants experience the, so to speak, preview to the Vocal Science Method, at least 2 new individual private clients will be derived from this event. And let me tell you, to start the individual singing or speech lessons, or even the Voice Repair sessions, after they have participated in the workshop, is literally a “piece of cake”. I personally think that any workshops on any subject should be highly beneficial to give a jumpstart to anybody who is not sure, doubting or even skeptical to start something more substantial, and nevertheless, to pay a larger sum of money for it.
So I highly recommend to “test the waters” first before you jump into something which you are not 100% convinced about, or not sure if you want to fully embark on.
