Fix: Windows 10 Creators Update Fails to Install

Lots of users reported that Windows 10 creators update not installing on their system. 1. Delete the folder $WINDOWS.~BT

Users can delete the $WINDOWS.~BT folder to get rid of this annoying Windows Update issue. For that,

1. Launch the File Explorer -> Switch to View tab -> Here tick-mark the box for “Hidden items

2. Open C: Drive and look for the folder named as $WINDOWS.~BT.

3. Once you find it, make a right click and delete the folder.

That’s it.

Normally this folder is created by the system when you try to update your system to latest build available. In a situation where Windows 10 Creators Update Fails to Install you can delete this folder and start the upgrade process from scratch.

Note: 70% of the problems related to Windows Update is fixed by following above step.

2. Check System Compatibility

When Anniversary Update was released by the Microsoft back in August 2016, lots of users reported that they failed to update their system to latest build because of hardware compatibility. What that means is if you’re able to install Windows 10 doesn’t mean that you will able to install Creators or Anniversary update of Windows 10. So it is recommended to check system hardware compatibility.

  • Acer
  • Dell
  • HP
  • Lenovo
  • Samsung
  • Sony
  • Toshiba

3. Use Windows 10 Update Assistant

If you’re not able to install the Windows 10 creators update, you can take help of Microsoft official tool named as Windows 10 Update Assistant to upgrade

For that, visit this Microsoft page and click on Update Now button. This will download the Windows Update Assistant. You need to follow the instructions suggested by the tool. This tool will check the hardware compatibility and install the latest build if available any.

Note: Make sure not to click on Download Now button otherwise it will start downloading Media creation tool

4. Use Windows 10 Media Creation Tool

You can take help of Windows 10 Media Creation tool to install Creators update of Windows 10. Simply create Windows 10 installation media and install the Creators update using it.

5. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

Microsoft has employed various troubleshooter in Windows 10 using which you can fix problems related Windows 10 components. You can find all of them by navigating to the following location:

Settings -> Update & Security -> Troubleshoot -> Windows Update -> Run the troubleshooter
