The Prince's Gambit

Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

When an important artifact is stolen from the Chultan Historical Society, tensions rise between rival merchant princes vying for control. As agents of one of these princes, it falls to a group of unlikely heroes to track down the thief and recover the priceless artifact. Will they navigate the treacherous political landscape and escape with their lives, or find themselves in the torture chamber of Port Nyanzaru’s elite?

Using This Supplement

Port Nyanzaru is the first stop in the adventure Tomb of Annihilation. Port Nyanzaru is a bustling location with many places to shop and get quests but no formal dungeon locations. In addition, the book provides a beautiful battle map for the Merchant Prince’s Villa, but no adventure content takes place there.

Furthermore, chapter 1 could benefit from foreshadowing significant figures that appear later in the campaign. This adventure includes a museum in Port Nyanzaru with various artifacts and historical items tied to later campaign events. Most notably, this adventure includes ties to Ras Nsi, a key figure who appears later in the campaign.

This adventure is intended for characters of 1st level and higher and requires a copy of Tomb of Annihilation or Mike Schley’s map of the merchant prince's villa.

Adventure Summary

The party visits the Chultan Historical Society, where they discover that the prayer beads of Ras Nsi have been stolen. The museum’s patron hires the party to recover the beads from the merchant prince Kwayothé’s villa. Using stealth or cunning, the party must sneak into the villa and recover the beads from Kwayothé’s room without being detected. With the door to her room locked, the party may need to change course and find a way through Kwayothé’s second-floor balcony instead.
