Summer House Eatery; Pretty Face

Another new eatery in town, but one that takes a bit of work to get to. Deep within the by lanes of Alwarpet on a dead end, Summer House Eatery is as fresh as it can get with it's eclectic ambiance. The space is surprisingly large, the menu spans across cuisines and the waiters are trained to explain the dishes. First impressions are excellent.

Adding to the first impressions are the metal straws that come with the drinks that probably makes this among the first restaurants to do away with plastics. The drink itself, a Nutella Peanut Butter milkshake, quite watery with barely a hint of both Nutella and peanut butter, wasn't exactly making the impressions. The truffle french fries, for its hefty price tag, certainly deserved a wee bit more truffle oil to coat it evenly. Half of it had a whiff and the rest were simply plain french fries.

After the mildly flavoured dishes thus far, the Korean Grilled Chicken felt like it came from a different kitchen. Quite heady with its sauce and generous in size, this was the first, and as we found out later, the only completely satisfying dish that night. I totally loved the flavour and appreciated its intensity to pack a punch, the succulent chicken dish might be worth going back for.

The waiter was pushy in recommending the mushroom ravioli and was telling us how all the diners went gaga over it. We also saw a number of tables being served the same. While definitely a hearty portion, it was good dish at best. The bread that came with it was very eggy in taste.

The Korean Chicken was my dish and for that, I wouldn't mind going back to try a few more dishes here, hoping that that chicken is their standard and not the rest. It's a great place for a date with its extremely comforting ambiance, and while the effort is not seen in the food, yet, I do hope they sort out, what might be teething troubles. So we also decided to save dessert for such time. The meal was about Rs. 1250 for the above dishes and drink.

The address is not going to help you get there. Switch on Google Maps. It's in Seethamal Colony, Alwarpet.
