SPPU opens door to International Students

Savitribai Phule Pune University attracts the largest number of foreign students in comparison to all other Indian Universities. Apart from offering a multi-cultural and inter-disciplinary learning environment, one of the main reasons for studying in Pune is the manageable cost of living and the conducive environment for education. Currently, we have around 14,000 students, from over 102 countries studying at the University and its affiliated colleges.

The International Centre of Savitribai Phule Pune University, located amidst the 411 acres, assists the International Students’ Community, in acquiring information about the various courses, colleges, tuition structure, eligibility, accommodation, health insurance and the likes offered by the University. It is also operative in arranging for the students’ admissions and their overall welfare.

In 2018, department of management sciences PUMBA, at Savitribai Phule Pune University, started an undergrad course, B.B.A- Hospitality and Facilities Management.

This last academic year, BBA(HFM) has opened its doors to International students like never before. The online mode of learning has helped connect students from different parts of the world like Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Oman, etc. The students have been having a great time with their peers and faculty. Opening doors to international students help us in not only widening our reach but also in understanding different cultures and norms.

The curriculum of the course is crafted to bridge the ever-growing demand of the services industry. This course is one of its kinds in the city. No other course provides this distinctive combination of business administration with a thrust on study and application of service management. Varied, comprehensive elements of retail, facilities, event, hospitality and customer relationship management have been incorporated to enrich the curriculum. The course prepares students with analytical, administrative, inter-personal and technological skills. It propels high standards in education and professional finesse to hone competencies in the field of management.

This introductory course provides an overview of the hospitality and tourism industry, its growth and development, industry segments and their distinguishing characteristics, trends and current concerns. Students are introduced to career opportunities and the employability skills needed to succeed in specific hospitality / facilities management fields.

The program objective is to prepare students for management, sales and marketing opportunities in the hotel / service industry by providing intense course work that combines theory with practical learning experiences, thereby increasing students’ opportunities to find employment in the field. The course specifically addresses strengths and weaknesses with respect to market opportunities in the student’s major and intended field of work.

Facilities managers are involved in both strategic planning and day-to-day operations, particularly in relation to buildings and premises. Responsibilities and duties may vary depending on the type of corporation, but the most likely responsibilities include:

  • contract management
  • procurement management
  • maintenance of the grounds and buildings
  • general cleaning of the facility
  • catering and vending
  • health and safety
  • security
  • utilities and communications infrastructure
  • space management

Facilities managers are employed in all sectors and industries and the diversity of the work may be reflected in different job titles such as operations, estates, technical services, and asset or property manager.

Duration: It is a three-year full-time Degree Program.

Eligibility: To be eligible for admission to the first year of the program, the candidate should have passed HSC (10+2 from Arts/Science/Commerce/Vocational) with English as a compulsory language. Required minimum Aggregate Marks: 45% (40% for reserved category from Maharashtra).
