Office Friendly St. Patrick’s Day Ideas (March 17th)

It’s that time of the year again – time for St. Patrick’s Day and even if you’re not Irish, you’re still allowed to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. It’s also a great excuse to have party at work. And so we thought why not write an article about the different ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The following are a compilation of tips on throwing an office friendly St. Patrick’s Day party that employees are sure to appreciate.

  1. Host a green pot potluck

Since this is the traditional color for St, Patrick’s Day what better way to celebrate than with green colored food? Have employees bring in the favorite green dishes, and celebrate the holiday with some delicious food. This is also a great way to promote teamwork between employees and different departments.

  1. Hold a decorating contest

Brighten up the work space and boast employee morale by holding a St, Patrick’s Day decorating contest. Have everyone decorate their desk or area with holiday themed shamrocks, leprechauns and other similarly themed items. During the office party award the employee with the best decorated space with a small token. This is also a fun way to get everyone involved.

  1. Play St. Patrick’s Day games and contests

There are plenty of Irish themed games that are appropriate for the work place. Trivia games on Irish history are something that everyone at work can participate in, and enjoy. Prizes can also be given out to the employees that answer the most questions correctly. Scavenger hunts for the famous “pot o’ gold” are another way to celebrate the holiday, and it is a great way to build team spirit. Costume contests at work, with small prizes going to the winner, can inspire creativity and help employees “blow off some steam”.

  1. Learn how to dance an Irish jig

There are countless videos online and even instructors that can teach almost anyone how to dance an Irish jig. Even though employees probably won’t master the dance in one day, it will definitely put them in the spirit of the holiday. They will also be able to get in a little exercise while having fun, and this is always beneficial.

  1. Play Irish music

Even if it’s not possible for employees to take time off to celebrate the holiday at work, businesses can still acknowledge it. Have Irish Music streaming during the day, to help keep busy employees motivated during the holiday. If anyone at work can play an Irish jig or other Celtic music on an instrument, encourage them to entertain their fellow employees. Some ideas for Irish music include U2, The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys and The Cranberries.

It is important for businesses to inform their employees about any upcoming St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. The last thing anyone wants is for an employee to feel left out. Sending company emails to all employees individually will help to ensure that everyone gets the invitation. This also helps to give it a more personal touch, and this can boast employee loyalty.

March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day and with a little planning any business can have a great celebration.
