Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz has expressed reservations about Saudi Arabia's plan to establish a US-backed nuclear power programme. The US would need to approve the programme as a condition for the kingdom to normalise its relations with Israel. Katz's comments were the first public Israeli remarks on the Saudi condition. The Israeli defence establishment is not enthusiastic about Saudi access to nuclear energy, let alone uranium enrichment on its soil. Meanwhile, no dramatic progress has been made on the Israeli-Saudi track.
