With hilarious jokes and a lovable cast of characters, this throwback series is guaranteed to make you wish you grew up in the ’70s. And with a sequel series set in the ’90s coming to Netflix this year, it’s time to take a look at the 20 Best Moments From That ’70s Show.
20.
Kitty and Red Give Eric The Talk
Fox / Via YouTube
When the Formans find out Donna is on birth control, Red and Kitty go on high alert and give Eric “the talk,” and of course, it’s uncomfortable for him. Though Kitty tries to be open about sex, Red just tells Eric to not do it, so the net product of their talk was zero. And it probably didn’t help that they talked about foreplay.
19.
Kelso Falls Off The Water Tower
Fox / Via YouTube
One of the show’s best running gags is how the characters typically fall off the town’s water tower by accident. This all began when they were painting a pot leaf on it and Kelso falls to the ground. And when Fez comes back to finish painting at the end of the episode, he too falls off the tower, thus birthing the gang’s greatest traditions.
18.
Grandma’s Dead
Fox / Via YouTube
This is probably the darkest moment in the entire show, and it could only happen to Eric. When he tells off his grandma for being so mean to his mother all the time, she dies right in the car with him, and he runs outside in shock. It’s no joke to see someone die, especially a loved one, and it’s tricky when a sitcom confronts it.
17.
Ye Olde ’70s Show
Fox / Via YouTube
Writing about her breakup with Eric, Donna publishes a medieval tale about “Derek” and “Wanda,” retelling how he killed her cat and had dirty magazines beneath his bed. Topher Grace is the perfect blend of wicked and witty in this scene as he refuses to lose Wanda and declares war on all cats named “Sir Bonkers.” You’d think this was how he got the gig to play Venom in Spider-Man 3.
16.
Kitty Yells At Red
Fox / Via YouTube
Kitty spent most of Season 5 reeling from an over-the-top depiction of menopause, and her anger reaches its peak when Eric decides to move to college early. Say what you will about how the show tackled this feminine issue, but the way Kitty tells Red off and calls him a dumbass is hands-down her greatest moment in the show.
15.
Canadian Interrogation
Fox / Via YouTube
During a beer run to Canada, the boys are caught trying to smuggle Fez across the border, and they have to deal with the Canadian police. Each member of the group is interrogated, and we see their characters on full, hysterical display. Eric plays innocent, Leo repeats their questions, Kelso asks stupid questions, and Fez feigns not knowing English.
14.
Red Gets Pranked
Fox / Via YouTube
When Kelso decides to celebrate Prank Day with the guys, they decide to get even by pouring a bucket full of oatmeal on him. But the prank goes horribly, horribly wrong when Red walks into the room and gets dunked instead. You can practically see their souls leave their bodies as they gaze in horror at what they’ve wrought.
13.
Stacey Likes Red
Fox / Via YouTube
When Eric tries to ask out a coworker at Price Mart, he is shocked to learn that she likes his dad, Red. But when he tells his friends about it, they all laugh uncontrollably and make some of the funniest jokes in the entire show. And seeing Kelso lose it at that Liberace joke is just glorious.
12.
Kelso’s Impotence
Fox / Via YouTube
Kelso’s life changes for the worse when he can’t get it up, but we can’t help but laugh at all the jokes made about it. His whole subplot is full of hilarious innuendos, but the best part comes when he tells the guys that he’s “omnipotent,” causing them to crack up laughing.
11.
Permanent Records
Fox / Via YouTube
The gang celebrates Halloween by visiting the burned ruins of their old school. There, they find their permanent records and discover some dark secrets about each other, including how Eric framed Hyde for ruining someone else’s project, as well as Jackie’s middle name.
But wait, there’s more!
Fox / Via YouTube
We also learn that Kelso was held back a year and could’ve bought beer for his friends, who immediately turn against him. In the end, it takes Bat-Fez to save the day and calm everyone down, making for a serious but comedic exploration into these characters and the friendship they share.
10.
Disco Night
Fox / Via YouTube
What are the ’70s without disco? In one of the show’s first episodes, the gang goes to a new disco place in Kenosha, and they all have a night to remember. Kelso embarrasses himself on the dance floor by flailing around like a pelican on drugs. However, Fez steals the show when he dances with Jackie, whipping out moves that make Travolta look like Kelso.
9.
I Love Cake
Fox / Via YouTube
What starts off as a romantic date between Eric and Donna ironically turns sideways when she says “I love you” for the first time. Eric’s eyes widen with fear and he becomes too shocked to respond. After staring at her for a few moments, he panics and finally says the immortal line, “I love cake.” We’ve all been nervous trying to say “I love you” back, but hopefully, none of us have crashed and burned quite like Forman.
8.
Eric Moons Everyone
Fox / Via YouTube
When the school yearbook comes out, the group sees that Donna was mooning in one of the pictures. Donna eventually accuses Eric of being a prude for his reaction, and to prove otherwise, he inadvertently goes cakes out in front of both of their parents. And for some reason, he bends down to look at them instead of just covering himself up, which makes this moment even funnier.
7.
Fez Dreams Of Kelso
Fox / Via YouTube
After Fez has an erotic dream about Kelso, their friendship is put in hot water as he tries to figure out what it means. When Fez finally tells him and his friends about it, their reactions are nothing short of perfect. But Kelso gives the most Kelso response when he thinks that Fez’s dream makes him gay.
6.
Eric and Donna’s Revenge
Fox / Via YouTube
After the gang dines and dashes on Eric and Donna, the couple exacts their revenge by feeding them brownies made with laxatives. Right after the truth is revealed, everyone else clogs the stairs trying to reach the bathroom, and poor Fez has to deal with his crush, Caroline, as he struggles to hold it in. And the episode ends on a high note when Kelso comes back downstairs and foolishly eats another brownie.
5.
The Parents Get High
Fox / Via YouTube
When Hyde makes special brownies for the Formans’ garage sale, he accidentally leaves a tray of them in the oven for the parents to eat, and the results never get old. From Red singing about the Easter Bunny to Kitty cracking up in the circle, this scene showed us all that the adults can be ten times funnier when they’re all baked on baked goods.
4.
Kelso Caught In the Vase
Fox / Via YouTube
When Kelso finds his stash of pot in Jackie’s cabin, he frantically hides it in a vase when she and the Formans arrive. From then on, Kelso struggles to get his hand free. His buffoonery only gets funnier as time goes on, and of course, he messes everything up and gets caught with his stash.
3.
Batman vs. Riddler
Fox / Via YouTube
After Fez and Jackie win a roller disco competition, the latter celebrates by getting drunk on champagne. When Jackie offers to go all the way with him, Fez has a hilarious internal crisis represented by Batman and the Riddler. In the end, Fez makes the right choice and declines Jackie’s offer. It’s a clever spin on the shoulder angel/devil gag, and one that proves Fez is Batman.
2.
The Guys Are Caught
Fox / Via YouTube
In the last circle before Eric’s trip to Africa, the guys reminisce about what is possibly their most hilarious adventure together. Their moment is cut short when Red catches them all smoking up, and he and Kitty are both fuming. Unfortunately for them, the guys are too high to pay attention to them, and each of their perspectives makes this scene funny enough to give you a contact high.
1.
Eric Is A God
Fox / Via YouTube
After Donna finds another woman’s panties in Eric’s car, she suspects it belongs to his lab partner, Shelly. She goes to confront him at The Hub with Fez and Kelso giving color commentary. This scene is filled with jokes that get funnier and funnier, and when Donna’s mother shows up and reveals the panties are hers, Kelso and Fez have the ultimate mental breakdown and hail Eric as their god.
