Yesterday at the Parliament, President Ram Nath Kovind made the opening speech to address the joint of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha gathered up for Budget 2018. Political biggies like VP Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, BJP President Amit Shah, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi were present at the Central Hall of the Parliament. During the maiden speech, President Kovind strongly pitched in for Simultaneous Elections on national as well as state level. He said that the frequent elections across India are highly burdening for country’s economy as well as resources and hurdled the development process.

President said “a sustained debate is required on the subject of simultaneous elections and all political parties need to arrive at a consensus on this issue”. With this, he supported the idea of simultaneous elections which was recently narrated by PM Modi. Besides simultaneous elections, he also talked about triple talaq bill and said that the government has already passed a bill and he ‘hopes that the parliament will also do the same’. Because “For decades, the dignity of Muslim women has remained captive to political cost-benefit. Now the Nation has an opportunity to emancipate them from this situation… once enacted, (it) will enable Muslim sisters and daughters to live a life of self-respect with courage,” President Kovind said.

During the speech, he also covered topics like appeasement of employment opportunities by government and that employment programs for minority communities like the ‘Seekho Aur Kamao’, ‘Usttad’, ‘Garib Nawaz Kaushal Vikas Yojana’ and ‘Nai Roshni’ have been launched. And of course, he had to mention about the GDP of India during the speech, so he said that the growth rate has remained “”impressive despite global economic slow-down”. About that, common people might not see or experience economic growth in India, but may be one needs to be the President to see it.
