Queen Latifah and Anika Noni Rose have new television projects lined up and we are here for it! Check it inside...
On the wake of The Wiz Live Deadline reports that Queen Latifah has signed on for a starring role in a music themed untitled project, fromGay Ass Musical Empire's co creator and executive producer Lee Daniels. It is rumored that the show will be titled "Star". The pilot follows three young women who form a girl group with hopes of making it big in the music industry. Queen Latifah will star as "Carlotta", the owner of an Atlanta beauty salon, with an amazing voice, who will become a surrogate mother to the three girls - even though she doesn't approve of their dreams.
Deadline also reports that Dreamgirls star Anika Noni Rose will be on the mega hit drug slinging series Power. She will play LaVerne Thomas, a street wise cop from the neighborhood where Ghost and Tommy grew up. Damn Tommy and Ghost need new friends. All they know is a bunch of po po.
Totally loved Anika in the short lived comedy-drama The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. Anika and Jill Scott slayed the HBO series but folks didn't support it so the show was cancelled after one season. Looking forward to seeing Anika's character in Power. No official date for season 3 of Power has been announced yet.
She recently wrapped up filming a Roots reboot where she starred as "Kizzy" with Forest Whitaker for an A&E miniseries. ( I don't know why they re-did Roots. Some things are better left untouched, but I will be tuning in nevertheless) T.I. was in the Roots series as well. I can't imagine how that went since T.I. can't act worth a damn. Anika is also starring in a new German action thriller titled The Blue Mauritius, set to debut in 2016. Cutie pie is getting her dollars.
Anika is the in the closet boo in my head. She's never been married or linked to any man and she has no children. As my old country grandma would say (God rest her soul), 'That there gal is kinda old with no man and no chirren. She might be funny'. Indeed grandma, hopefully she bats for my team. #wishfulthinking
