Water crisis hit Donkorkrom over debt issue

The District Capital of Affram Plains North, Donkorkrom is suffering severe water crisis. This issue follows the interruption of power supply to Community Water Supply System by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The community Water Facility has indebted again to ECG of about Ghc46, 000 due to the frequent power outages

For the past three weeks, ECG has cut off the only Water facility in area over a GH¢46, 000 debt. Around 30,000 residents has affected over this situation as they don’t have access to potable drinking water.

They compelled to depend on other polluted water sources. The students of Community Day Senior High School have also affected.

The District Assembly has forced to depend on the Ghana National Fire Service’ Water Tender for water supply to school and other sensitive institutions.

Affram Plains North DCE, Samuel Kena said that the water facility has ECG GH¢60, 000 before he took control of office but managed to help pay debt.

But, the community Water facility has indebted again to ECG of about Ghc46, 000 due to the frequent power outages. Power outage has damaged one of its tools making it impossible to raise enough expenses to pay an average of Ghc13, 000 monthly.

The DCE called the decision by ECG insensitive considering the power distributor to agree for a payment plan.
