The man, identified as Joseph Oloruntoju, is said to have left his residence for the Owena Army Barracks in Akure to watch the match with friends.
He is said to have slumped after the South African team scored their second goal, and was rushed to a private hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The Public Relations Officer of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Akure, Captain Ojo Adelegan, who confirmed the incident, stated that Oloruntoju’s blood pressure was found to be too high.
“He is a retired sergeant. He has a shop at our mammy market (in the barracks). It was discovered that his blood pressure was overshot. It was while our doctors were saving his life that he gave up the ghost,” he said.
