The injury occurred with 49 seconds left in the third quarter of the Hornets’ game against Golden State on Wednesday.
Last season for the Hornets, Zeller played a massive role, starting in 58 of the 62 games in which he appeared. He averaged 10.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per game.
This offseason, however, the Hornets acquired center Dwight Howard. With the addition of Howard, Zeller has been coming off the bench.
This year, Zeller’s role has been fairly large, though not as large as it was last season. This season, he’s played 19.9 minutes per game and averaged 7.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and a career-high 1.1 blocks per game.
This one hasn’t been a good season for the Hornets. They’re just 9-14, and losing Zeller is a tough blow. With him gone, their only backup big men are Frank Kaminsky and Johnny O’Bryant.
