Influencer Marketing

Influencer Marketing has been around a lot longer than we think. In the days prior to Paris  Hilton and Myspace promotions, influencers have long been a necessity in the marketing strategies.

With the growth of Instagram, the term “ influencer” has greatly been overemphasized. Leaving the question, has the idea of an influencer reached its peak? Consumers have become desensitized to influencer marketing. Making it more difficult for companies to use a well sought after individual and call them an influencer for their brand.

Celebrities endorsing products ultimately may drive sales but provides little value and growth to your brand in the long term. Exploring celebrity backing can also be fairly costly with a low return on investment. The goal for any brand is to provide value to the end consumer, with the use of an influencer this can last as long as trends. No longer can celebrities take a photo holding a product and that item will become the next “big thing”.

Improving Influencer Marketing

Bringing Influencers into the growth of the brand to understand the value of your product changes the conversation. In the eyes of consumers; knowing an influencer had a hand in creating a product in which they believe in makes all the difference. Potential consumers will be more inclined to purchase a product.  Brands such as Kylie Cosmetics have become wildly successful simply due to Kylie’s heavy involvement in building the brand. She was never just the face of the product.

There is no right way to do influencer marketing, but if companies are willing to step out of their comfort zone and trying something different that may be off-brand. It can be beneficial to a brand.

Avex has clients in the past that have done influencer marketing and haven’t seen any traction at all. This could be due to aligning your brand with the wrong influencer or this influencer may not have the right engagement for your brand.”

Conclusion

Many influencers may have the following you’re after but not the followers that find interest in your product. Essentially, influencer marketing will always play a key role in marketing and promotional efforts. Consumers are no strangers to influencer marketing, brands will have to find more creative ways to incorporate influencers in their strategies. How brands choose to utilize influencer is still yet to be decided.
