How to Apply and Prepare for UPSC Examination

What Is UPSC?

UPSC stand for Union Public Service Commission. It is India’s central agency which is authorised to conduct government examinations. It mainly refers to the posts of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IES) and Indian Revenue Services (IRS) and other government examinations. Civil Service Examination, Indian Forest Service, Engineering Services Examination, National Defence Academy Examination, Naval Academy Examination, Combined Medical Service examination, Special Class Railway Apprentice, Indian Economy Service Examination, Combined Geoscientist and Geologist Examination, and Central Armed Police Forces Examination are examination that comes under Upsc.

Age and Qualification to apply for UPSC Exams

  1. If you have any degree from a government recognized university then you can apply for UPSC exams. If you are in your final year and waiting for the results then too you are eligible to apply for UPSC preliminary examination.
  2. If you fall into general category then your age limit to apply for this exam is 32 years with maximum of 6 attempts.
  3. For OBC candidates your age limit to apply for th  e UPSC exam is 35 years with maximum of 9 attempts and for SC/ST age limit is 37 years and number of attempts is upto your age limit.

4.Other eligibility criteria is nationality, to appear for UPSC exams you need to be a citizen of India.

  1. If you are physically handicapped age limit for you will be 42, 45, 47 years for general, OBC and SC/ST. Number of attempts is 9 for general, OBC and for SC/ST is unlimited.

Restriction for UPSC examination

If you are a candidate who is appointed to the Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Foreign Service on the results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that service will not be eligible to compete at this examination. Commission take up verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents only after the candidate has qualified for Interview/ Personality Test
