Bogie Suspension Engineer

Purpose of the job (explain in a few sentences the primary purpose of this position and its major objectives; it may help to fill out the key responsibilities first)

Develop Suspension Components and systems, like coil springs, rubber to metal parts, air spring systems, anti-roll bar devices, etc., in close collaboration with the respective suppliers and Alstom internal departments.
Apply and develop layout calculation tools for suspension components and perform FEA calculations of rubber components.
Support the project teams with input for and by creation of Engineering documents, like part and test specifications, load spectra, drawings, etc. and ensure compliance towards Customer specifications, Design principles, Standardization, and Homologation requirements.
Analyze supplier’s documentation, like drawings, calculation reports, clause by clause documents etc., to support Supply Management and Project Engineering in the supplier evaluation and selection.
Attend or support First Article Inspections (FAI) at suppliers.
Gain a detailed manufacturing knowledge of suspension components and systems by regular visiting the suppliers in Europe, India, East Asia.
The focus (generalist covering all types of suspension systems, or specialist in a specific field of expertise) can be adjusted and developed based on business needs and the candidate’s interests and competencies.

Key responsibilities (describe key responsibilities in order of importance and specify the approximate amount of time, e.g. in % related to the typical business cycle)

1.Develop suspension components and systems, like coil springs, rubber to metal parts, air spring systems, anti-roll bar devices, etc., in close collaboration with the respective suppliers and Bombardier internal departments.

Apply and develop layout calculation tools for suspension components and perform FEA calculations of rubber components.

2.Support the project teams with input for and by creation of Engineering documents, like part and test specifications, load spectra, drawings, etc. and ensure compliance towards Customer specifications, Design principles, Standardization, and Homologation requirements.

3.Analyze supplier’s documentation, like drawings, calculation reports, clause by clause documents etc., to support Supply Management and Project Engineering in the supplier evaluation and selection.

Qualifications & Functional Knowledge

Education

Mechanical Engineering degree or similar qualification.
Relevant experience required (i.e. directly linked to the requirements of the position/role)

Experience in Bogie engineering or similar products is preferred. We are open to candidates coming from railway, aerospace and automotive in terms of complexity of products and interfaces in a safety-critical environment. The position is also open for graduate engineers with a strong desire to learn and gain the required competencies.
Experience in working with suppliers is an advantage.
Experience with FEA simulations is an advantage
Specialized or cross-functional knowledge / relevant experience required by the position/role

Good communication skills and the ability to efficiently integrate her-/himself in a team working on common challenging goals within strict deadlines’ pressure.
Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
