What do the gospels say about abortion?

Abortion has become one of the most touchiest subjects within society today. The flexibility of people has become so great that even certain Christians have taken a liberal stance when it comes to this subject and stand in harmony with those who support such a practice. Now we can go into the whole science and evidence regarding whether a fetus is a human being or not. But instead, let us see what the BIBLE has to say about this.

When we read about the virgin birth in the gospel of Matthew, we see that the gospel writer tells us that Mary was WITH CHILD of the holy ghost. The word child as used for Christ BEFORE he was born is also used after he came out of the womb in Matthew 2:11 and is also used for a LIVING child who Jesus cured in Matthew 17:18. Furthermore, in Luke 1 :36 and 41, we are told that Elisabeth conceived a "son" and that the "babe" leaped in her womb. God does not say that a "fetus" leaped in her womb! Rather it says THE BABE leaped. This is the exact same word that God uses to describe Christ in the manger AFTER He was born in Luke 2:12, 16.

So what we see is that God views the child in the womb THE SAME as a child that is out of it. LIVING.

Here is how Jesus viewed and treated children:
  • Jesus Healed children. Matthew 17:18
  • Jesus raised them from the dead. Mark 5:41-42
  • Jesus blessed them. Mark 10:14-16
  • Jesus told us that they are an example for us to follow. Matthew 18:3-4
  • Jesus told us that heaven is made up of them. Matthew 18:3-4
  • Jesus treated them so well that they praised him. Matthew 21:15

What we see is that Jesus loved children and they were placed in a very special place in his heart. He viewed both children within the womb and without it as something beautiful and special: A creation of God. And seeing as the child within the womb is seen as a living being, then the following law applies to them as well:

Matthew 5:21
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
