Did Jesus support the killing of unbelievers and apostates

Tags: jesus

One of the main passages that people bring up to prove that Jesus supported some kind of Jihad against unbelievers is in Luke 19 when Jesus tells his followers to kill those people who refused to want him as king. However, the problems with this interpretation just pile up:

-This is a parable.
-Since Jesus is no longer with us, how can we bring anyone BEFORE him like the parable says?
-A parallel is given in Matthew 25:29, and what we see is that the punishment is being thrown into outer darkness. So Jesus having people killed for not wanting him to be king is a metaphor which speaks about their punishment IN HELL (outer darkness).

Furthermore, when we read John 6:66, we see that many of his disciples STOPPED FOLLOWING HIM. What did Jesus do? Did he command them to be killed? Did he kill them himself? The answer is NO.

Another interesting thing to point out is that in the garden of Gethsemane, when Christ was about to be ARRESTED, one of his disciples took a sword and cut off one of the men’s ears. Jesus then told him to put the sword back in its place, for those who live by the sword shall die by it. So if Jesus is not willing to have his followers harm or kill people for persecuting and arresting their God, then wouldn’t it seem logical to conclude that he wouldn’t command people to be killed for not believing or abandoning the faith?

What we see is that Christ NEVER commands the killing of apostates and unbelievers.
